Giving Back, Growing Together: What Volunteering Means at Peoples Bank
At Peoples Bank, community is more than just a place, it’s a commitment. From day one, we’ve believed in the power of showing up for others, supporting local causes, and using our time and talents to make a difference. That belief shines through in our employees, whether they’ve been with us for 16 years or just a few months.

We recently asked two team members, Sarah, a new face at Peoples Bank, and Bobbi, a long-time employee with the highest number of volunteer hours at the bank, to share what volunteering means to them. Their stories are different, but their passion for serving others is the same.

Sarah: New to Peoples, Not New to Giving Back

Though she’s only recently joined Peoples Bank, Sarah has been involved in volunteer work for years. Her experience includes everything from teaching youth groups at her church to supporting Meals on Wheels, the National Balloon Classic, and the Indianola Tour of Homes.

One experience that stands out to her is a community project she led at her former job, organizing a food and necessity drive for the Warren County Necessity Pantry. With help from her coworkers, Sarah also helped knit hats for local students and participated in adopting families at Christmastime. “We didn’t meet the families,” she explained. “We wanted it to be a surprise. But hearing how happy they were made every minute worth it.”

For Sarah, volunteering means using your time and talents to help people who need it. “It’s a way to show people in our community that we care,” she said. “Even as a new employee, I’ve already seen how Peoples Bank shows up, whether it’s sponsoring events or sending volunteers. I’m excited to get started and see what the future holds.”

Bobbi: 16 Years of Community Leadership and Counting

Bobbi started at Peoples Bank as a part-time teller while attending Simpson College. Sixteen years later, she’s grown not just in her role at the bank, but as a leader in her community.

Through her role at People Bank, Bobbi has helped with everything from local parades and school tailgates to delivering meals, teaching financial literacy, and even joining the Indianola Chamber Board and Indianola Young Professionals (IYP).

One of the most meaningful experiences for Bobbi has been her involvement in IYP’s revival post-COVID. “We’ve been able to donate over $12,000 each of the last two years through our Putt Putt fundraiser, all while supporting local businesses,” she shared. “Seeing young professionals reconnect and grow together is incredibly rewarding.”

For Bobbi, volunteering is about connection. “I love supporting others and making a difference, even in small ways. The bank has made it possible for me to do that, and that’s something I’m grateful for every single day.”

Why It Matters

At Peoples Bank, we believe giving back is part of being a good neighbor and a great bank. Whether you’re a new hire like Sarah or a longtime team member like Bobbi, we encourage every employee to get involved and be part of something bigger.

Our communities support us, and we’re proud to return that support through our time, resources, and heart. Because at the end of the day, community isn’t just where we work, it’s who we are.
